Felt Safety Outside
Felt safety is the way that our children feel inside their bodies, outside in the environment and in their relationships. Last week we talked about felt safety inside our bodies.
This week we will be looking into the environment. Remember, if our children come from a history of trauma, we may not recognize all of the triggers in the environment. They may see someone that reminds them of an abuser or a smell of food cooking can trigger an unwanted memory.
We can't always control the ways in which our child's environment is triggering to them but we can use our power of curiosity to discover what might be triggering unexpected and undesirable behaviors. When we understand what is causing our child to lose their felt safety we can empathize and help them work through it.
